Seal Beach tragedy. Would anger management have helped?
The recent shooting in the Seal Beach Salon is a tragedy. Eight people killed and several seriously injured as the result of a messy custody battle. There are many victims in this incident which came from frustration, anger and rage, but the shooter’s seven year old son is one victim that stands out to me as an anger management teacher.
The custody battle over this seven year old boy, as with many custody battles was very stressful and ugly at times. I wish this man would have reached out for help before it came to this. In anger management classes or even individual anger management therapy this man’s frustrations could have been expressed, he would have been taught valuable tools to manage his feelings, look at the situation from different perspectives, and use valuable tools to choose actions with better consequences, not just for himself but also for his son. Now this child has no mother or father in his life.
In anger management class we come across many participants who are experiencing difficulties in their relationships or going through a difficult divorce or break up. These types of life challenges are difficult for anyone. It is important to reach out for support from family, friends and/ or professionals so that you can get the positive feedback and tools you need to manage your stress and make the right choices for yourself and those that you love. Anger is a normal human emotion but what you do with it can have damaging long effects.
