Camp helps children heal from anger induced by trauma

Thirty-one children from San Bernardino County who have lost a loved one to a violent death will be given the opportunity to attend a three-day camp where they can share anger and other emotions with other kids who have experienced the same trauma.
It will be held at a camp in the San Bernardino Mountains from March 7 – 9 and is free to all campers.
Camp Good Grief SVP is a collaboration between the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Victim Services Unit and the Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital. The effort is paid for by victim restitution funds from the District Attorney’s Office and generous donations from the San Bernardino Police Department Management Group.
Therapists and interns from Loma Linda Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic, Loma Linda Child Life Specialists and District Attorney’s Office Victim Advocates accompany the children to camp, donating their time. In addition to grief counseling, the children get the opportunity to run, play and experience a great camp adventure. With this fourth camp, nearly 150 children have been able to benefit from this experience.
