The Root of Anger -An interns perspective
Where is the Anger really coming from?
In a recent class session, we discussed the root of anger. A common theme I hear in class is that actual anger did not land people in anger management class. Clients came by way of misconstrued occurrences, by uncharacteristic outbursts, and some of their own volition for various reasons. But class members are very participative.
One of the things that these anger management classes provide is the opportunity for participants to open up a broader exploration of their emotions and experiences and tap into factors, below the surface, that could lead to the expression of anger in present situations.
The progress of the class sessions is guided by the sharing of individuals. Some days there is more background emotion that needs to be released and processed; some days class members have encountered recent situations that have pushed them to their “boiling points.” Whatever the case, we move through an interactive discussion that dissects what is being shared for a better understanding of where anger really comes from. A lot of the time it is a build-up of frustrations across a spectrum of encounters that lead to a final blow-up. Once the root of anger is discovered, it is easier to apply learned tools of control and management.
