Anger Management means change.
If you are waiting for someone or something else to come along and change you, you had better be sitting in a very comfortable chair. The truth is that only you can change you and only if you really want to and are strongly motivated. Most of us are afraid to change because our fear of the “unknown” is stronger than any situation that we’re in. Also –there are those who just don’t believe in change. Their “self-talk” informs them with old ideas such as “That’s just the way I am” or “People never change”.
One of the many tools we teach in Daybreak anger management classes is to become aware of your “self-talk” and how it can sabotage your efforts to change and grow. Being “teachable” is an invaluable trait needed to learn new ideas and gain knowledge that can help you become the person you want to be.
Students in our classes come to realize that they can change if they are willing to be
learn new tools, behaviors and ideas. Their motivation is usually the negative “consequences” they have experienced as the result of their old thoughts and actions.
When your anger has been the cause of lost relationships, jobs, friends, self-esteem or has cost you emotional pain, it is time to consider learning new ways to express anger. You don’t have to punch walls because your father did. When someone or something makes you angry, you can “respond” instead of “react”. You can learn to have more realistic “expectations”. You no longer need to continue behaviors that are not in our best interest. You will gain in self -respect and experience more harmony in all areas of your life.
