Anger Management and the Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity….
The invocation of a higher power is the most humbling of statements. It allows the speaker to release responsibility and the need to control. In many ways anger is the antethisis of serenity.
to accept the things I cannot change…..
Unmet expectations are often a problem for those with anger management issues. We who are angry find it difficult to accpet that we can not change situations and other people. We often resort to physical violence or verbal aggression when we do not get what we want.
the courage to change the things I can….
What you can change is how you manage your own anger. This takes courage because it involves commitment and the ability to face your short comings with humility.
and the wisdom to know the difference……
The gift of controlling your anger is the ability to think through problem situations in your life rather than acting on them. This is fact is the building blocks of wisdom.
